Minimal Posters; Poirot...
Recently I've been obsessed with the minimal movie posters I've been finding on Pinterest. I think it’s amazing how you can strip back so much
content and just use simple shapes and iconography to create an instantly recognizable
poster. Here’s a few of my favourites (found via Pinterest).
So I thought I’d have a whack at creating my own minimal poster :) We happened to be watching Poirot this afternoon (One of my mum’s favourite shows) and it seemed a good place to start, what with his iconic moustache and whatnot. Here’s what I came up with.
And I got Instagram! So if you fancy you can follow every meal I eat, skyline I see, or face I pull when I'm feeling a bit vain @growingupgracefully :)

kisskissbangbang & photography exams...
So my last photography project o the school year has been handed in. I think now might me a good time to let you guys into my portfolio and see the final product!
The exam question I chose to work under was 'approaches to portraiture' and I worked around the idea of fashion photography (of course). I developed an brand called 'kisskissbangbang' which promotes itself as a vintage inspired clothes shop, similar to shops like Modcloth.
I shot 4 ads, inspired by the photos from H&M campaigns, one for each season...enjoy!
If you like them and want to see more then you can at my facebook page! There's the photos which I loved but didn't quite make the cut as well as others from my portfolio :)
I haven't put these up in order of season, so see if you can guess which is which :P Please give me feedback as I'd love to hear what you think!

Lipstick Poster...
I don't wanna keep recycling these images but I simply had to make a 50s style poster for my new lipstick :)
I started making it after I stumbled across these lovely inspirations on the internets...

Does it make the cut?

Beauty Review times...
Went on a bit of a makeup binge the other day in search of a red lipstick...you never just buy what you need. I thought I might take some photos and give some feedback to the internets :)
The first thing I want to review is the lipstick, Dior's 'Rouge Diorific' in Rose Abracadabra.
Before, with lipliner and then lipstick. |
The first thing was the tube. When I bought the lipstick I hadn't actually seen the packaging so I was just expecting a standard tubular...tube. But I was pleasantly suprised when I opened the box to find this weird little thing. Next thing, the colour. I'm quite pale so I have to be careful with reds, otherwise I'll end up looking like a clown. But this colour is great, not too orangy or pink. When I was in the shop the assistant put the matching liner on below my lipstick, but I didn;t feel like stretching to that so I just bought a cheaper equivalent in a similar colour from Bourjois Lip Pencil Coquette 13.
The lipliner is a little hard to start with but it works fine and stopped any bleeding around the edge of my mouth. I would reccomend it as a cheaper alternative if you're not willing to splash out on a pricier version (like me.)
The lipstick is great as well. I put one thin layer on and it was an even matte colour. When I blotted my lips not much came off, the pigment sticks really well. Throughout the day I reapplied 2 times, but not because it had all come off, the colour had just faded slightly. Really pleased I went pricey on this one!

The next thing I wanted to review was Soap&Glory's Thick & Fast mascara. When I got to the till at the Dior kiosk the sales assistant noticed my mascara, and rushed off to get me a sample of the Dior brand.Whilst I feel like she was horrified I went for a cheaper brand, I love free stuff. I thought I'd do a little comparison to see if my lovely sales assistant was right.
To be honest though, the brush is a bit too big, and I did find myself having to clean off specks. The mascara promotes itself as 'volumising' and I think it did volumise. However it was a bit thick and clumpy and I found myself having to separate a few of my eyelashes after just one coat.
The Dior Extase also promotes 'volumising technology' in just one coat. On my upper lashes it was again quite clumpy, but on my lower lashes it worked really well. The brush shape is a lot more forgiving on top of that. I think they are both quite similar, but the Dior does win out for me in this case.
I wanted to end on a lovely photoshoot of me in my new lipstick and mascara, but after taking a few photos it became clear that wasn't the way it was going to go. So I will play you out to our attempts instead...

Well hello there.
Sorry for the silence..again. Things got pretty heavy in the work department. However here is a set of forest photos I took on an outing the other autumnal afternoon to Richmond Park. I don't normally take landscapes but the light was so pretty and it was so autumny I thought I'd have a go :) Thoughts?

It's starting to get chilly, I bought some wintery clothes, may take some photos of them?

Cross my heart.
Another shoot in hopefully a series of 3 using the studio. Another model with a different selection of props and outfits. Orginally we were going to go for something quite Chanel-ish but it veered off in a completely different direction. Enjoy!
1 more shoot to come, I may be able to squeeze it in before half term, but then again, I might not. Who knows? It's a lottery with me, you never know what you're going to get. I'm just crazy like that. ;)

Fun & Furs...
So here is my first shoot of hopefully a sequence of portraits similar to these. Myself and an eager model composed these with a single flash head and some props we had lying around.
I recently purchased a fancy furry 1940s style coat, and was going to unveil it in this shoot, but my model quickly whipped the fur from the coat (don't worry, it's detatchable) and we ended up with a slightly more sensual set of photos than I had bargained for. (side note: I'm most definitely not complaining, she looks great without the coat, probably better.)
I'm really pleased with how they've come out, but what do you think? Any critisisms? Ideas?
Hopefully more coming soon...-Grace x

The golden section...
In photography class we are studying golden section for our technical books. Hence I thought I'd try out a golden themed photoshoot, as you do. We plastered my lovely volunteer models with gold makeup and experimented with the studio some more. Here are my 2 favourite photos. Enjoy :)
There's been a serious thinning of posts recently and for that I am very sorry :) I've had a lack of inspiration and been occupied with school work, you know how it is. Half term's coming up in 2 weeks (sweet sweet holiday) and I think I'm starting to get some ideas for more photos, so don't give up on me just yet ;)

They're coming for me.
So things have been pretty darn stressful this last week, juggling the heaps of coursework whilst trying to finish my personal statement and UCAS before half term. Three weeks left. *gulp*
But then again so is everyone else in my year, all over the world, so I'll try not to whine too much. Above is a quick snap of my window the other morning, with some heavy editing :)

Autumnal Afternoons...
Autumn is here! Despite how much I love summer, I love the colours of autumn and the gold afternoon light you get..nom nom nom. We did a short shoot (with an expensive borrowed camera) where I was helped by a lovely assistant and a reflector, which being new to the whole proper photography thing I know about, but don't use.
The results are rediculously better. I don't know why I wouldn't use a reflector. It's would be stupid not to. I nfear of sounding exceptionally girly...The light is so soft and pretty! That and the camera I used was heaps better than mine, so obviously the pictures will look better than normal ;)
What are people getting up to this autumn?
I will be mainly leaf jumping.
