Golden Eggs, Crystal Balls and a whole lotta crazy...

After a week in France we whizzed down to Figaris, a town speckled with either Dali or Dali inspired art and architecture. We didn't have time to visit all 4 Dali hotspots (2 being museums and 2 being homes) but we did visit both museums.

(I'm going to write a bit more than usual, even then the following paragraphs won't begin to express how much I loved these museums. It was like a drug induced dreamland, causing my brain to fire off on all cylinders. I walked out so over inspired that half the ideas have already fallen out of my head...)

To begin the outside of the outside of the building was crazy. It reminded me of a faberge egg but in building form. On top of that, the museums' contents were breathtaking, some having been made to fit the rooms as Dali designed the displays himself.
I didn't know much about him before my visit except that he was 'the guy who painted melty clocks'. Dali created so much in his lifetime, he must've just created nonstop to accumulate this many pieces because the museum spans through an old theatre building spiking off into seemingly endless little side rooms to show individual paintings and sculptures.

I was also surprised to see how many mediums he worked in; there were sculptures, paintings, installation pieces and optical illusions to recall a few. My favourite thing about the museum was how weird and nonsensical it was. For me Dali is the kind of art which I don’t feel I have to read into. I know the meanings are there, but the pieces are just as good and eye-catching without them.

A doorway made out of dolls heads? What does it mean? I don’t know. But the fact that he had the ideas and time to make a doorway out of dolls heads is inspiring enough for me.
Lip cushions inspired by the Lip sofa...I want one so bad!
A painting which reminded me of an episode of the Mighty Boosh, where Vince paints Howard and his head is a perfect sphere :)
