50 Shades of Grey...

So today I've been going through the complete and utter train wreck which is my hard drive, trying to sort out 2 years worth of folders which are typically logistically named 'things' or 'stuff'.
I'm starting Uni soon, and I realised I don't want to get 3 years down the line only to discover that I now have 5 YEARS of work to decode and re-organise. I'm going to be honest with you, it's been pretty rough. I've had to ask myself a lot of questions about the way my brain feels it is fit to organise a folder. Because my brain was oh so wrong.
Anyway, whilst I was weeping my way through 'AS Photography' I stumbled across some photos I took experimenting with different textures I found in my room. I wanted to share them and as an added blog bonus, my friend came up with the title (I don't want to take his credit, because I never would have thought of it on my own :P ). Just trying to keep things relevant and trendy, as you do.

Hoping the sun will come out a lot more the rest of the summer!

Clothes Crush; Modcloth...

I've mentioned Modcloth a few times in the past few posts, and I want to show you just how amazing their clothes are! I love the site, specifically the dress section, selling a mix of vintage inspired and comemptorary dresses, ranging from the super affordable to the slightly out of my budget, but still great products.

I bought my prom dress off the site and I was really pleased with it when it arrived, worth the 1-2 week wait. I made sure I checked the sizes beforehand, they have a 'true to size' sign on certain products, which is a great feature because their not forcing you to blindly guess when choosing a size like a lot of high street shops do.

Here is a countdown of my 10 favourite (if I had money I would buy them) dresses on the site at the moment, ordered in price value, lowest to highest :)

1.  Perfectly curated dress, $49.99 ****
2.  Topiary Garden tour dress, $62.99 ****
3.  Cast A-line dress, $89.99 ***
4.  Panache Panda-mic dress, $124.99 *****
5.  Born Beautiful dress, $155.99 ****
6.  Aisle be there dress, $162.99 ****
7.  Gown Undah, $162.99 ***
8.  Soiree in Santorini dress, $197.99 ***
9.  The local muse dress, $199.99 ****
10. Paper Moon Dress, $239.99 ***

My favourite has to be the Paanache Panda-mic dress, it'ssuper cute and super stylish, and doesn't conform to any of the more extreme styles in vogue at the moment so it won't age too badly :)  But hey I'm a sucker for panda products so maybe I'm a bit biased.

for-EVER.

Wow so A LOT has happened in my absense...firstly, I finished my exams, which means I have finished school forever. for-EVER. It hasn't really hit me yet, it's a pretty weird feeling knowing that I don't belong to the school system any more. Ah well.
I was voted queen for the day on the Jubilee which was great, I got an awesome pink disney tiara and people courtseyed (sp? god knows.) to me all day, which was a wierd experience. I have been heckled at whilst presenting a concert, which was an experience and a half, but also pretty funny. I had a leavers ball to which I wore a super cute dress from Modcloth which I am now obsessed with (If only I had the moneyy!)

And I got Tumblr, so feel free to head on over there and check it out/follow me at http://scarlettletterphoto.tumblr.com/
I won't bore you with any more life history, I have a bunch of photos/ideas for the summer which I shall share with you as and when the time comes :) Until then here's a few photos from the various leavers events I have been to :)

Cross my heart.

Another shoot in hopefully a series of 3 using the studio. Another model with a different selection of props and outfits. Orginally we were going to go for something quite Chanel-ish but it veered off in a completely different direction. Enjoy!

1 more shoot to come, I may be able to squeeze it in before half term, but then again, I might not. Who knows? It's a lottery with me, you never know what you're going to get. I'm just crazy like that. ;)

Fun & Furs...

So here is my first shoot of hopefully a sequence of portraits similar to these. Myself and an eager model composed these with a single flash head and some props we had lying around.
I recently purchased a fancy furry 1940s style coat, and was going to unveil it in this shoot, but my model quickly whipped the fur from the coat (don't worry, it's detatchable) and we ended up with a slightly more sensual set of photos than I had bargained for.
(side note: I'm most definitely not complaining, she looks great without the coat, probably better.)

I'm really pleased with how they've come out, but what do you think? Any critisisms? Ideas?
Hopefully more coming soon...

The golden section...

In photography class we are studying golden section for our technical books. Hence I thought I'd try out a golden themed photoshoot, as you do. We plastered my lovely volunteer models with gold makeup and experimented with the studio some more. Here are my 2 favourite photos. Enjoy :)

There's been a serious thinning of posts recently and for that I am very sorry :) I've had a lack of inspiration and been occupied with school work, you know how it is. Half term's coming up in 2 weeks (sweet sweet holiday) and I think I'm starting to get some ideas for more photos, so don't give up on me just yet ;)

Autumnal Afternoons...

Autumn is here! Despite how much I love summer, I love the colours of autumn and the gold afternoon light you get..nom nom nom. We did a short shoot (with an expensive borrowed camera) where I was helped by a lovely assistant and a reflector, which being new to the whole proper photography thing I know about, but don't use.

The results are rediculously better. I don't know why I wouldn't use a reflector. It's would be stupid not to. I nfear of sounding exceptionally girly...The light is so soft and pretty! That and the camera I used was heaps better than mine, so obviously the pictures will look better than normal ;)

What are people getting up to this autumn?
I will be mainly leaf jumping.
